Boeing Faces Rework on Roughly 30 Early 777-9 Airframes

Boeing must bring approximately 30 completed 777-9 airframes up to the aircraft’s final certified configuration as the first delivery slips to 2027.
Boeing has roughly 30 completed 777-9 airframes that were built years before the aircraft is expected to reach its final certified configuration.
The manufacturer must systematically update the aircraft to the configuration required for delivery through a process it calls “change incorporation.” The work extends beyond installing engines and interiors or completing customer acceptance.
The 777-9 was originally expected to enter airline service in 2020, but Boeing now expects the first delivery in 2027. Emirates has rejected early airframes, and one early aircraft has already been scrapped.
